Central Gas Heating-Warm A Cold Climate
In the regions with cold climate, Central Heating System is a necessity. Central heating makes the interiors of a building warm, distributing hot water from one point to all the rooms. In this system, heating takes place at one place, say in a furnace room, in contrast to local heating. Warmth gets radiated to other places by proper system. Combustion of fossil fuel in a boiler or furnace is the most common method of heat generation. This heat is distributed using forced air via ductwork or by water circulation or by steam through pipes.
Most of the houses in the UK have central gas heating system installed. This is also called the “Wet System” because water is heated by a gas-fired boiler. Entire house gets heated due to radiators and hot water is obtained from the taps. Liquid petroleum gas (LPG) is also used in some houses where there is no supply of gas network. LPG system works in the same way as gas powered one.
Advantages of Central Gas Heating
The most interesting advantage of central gas heating is that gas is a very efficient fuel. It gives best possible return for the every unit of energy. In standard boilers, hot flue gases are wasted while in modern condensing systems, these are used up to 86%. Another benefit of using gas for your central heating is that you do need not store the fuel. It reaches your home via pipes and it is easily available. As gas is the most often used fuel for heating, it is very easy to find a plumber, in case your boiler needs servicing or it breaks down.
Disadvantages of Central Gas Heating
One of the biggest disadvantages of using gas for central heating is the cost. It is very expensive and its prices are still rising. It is very expensive to install a new central gas heating system in your house. Again, for installing a central gas heating system in the house, it should be connected to the gas network and such connection involves high costs as well. To run efficiently and safely, gas boilers need to be serviced annually so you should expect to bear some expenses systematically, for your own sake.
Environmentally speaking, gas is not a clean source of energy as it produces carbon dioxide when it burns. Central gas heating system in your house is responsible for carbon dioxide emission, but using efficient and modern systems may significantly reduce it. To a standard steam-boiler furnace, they devised a special arrangement, using deflectors, by which a great amount of the products of first combustion are reburned. In ordinary sized fire-boxes, nearly all the smoke is reburned; in larger units, more deflectors can be employed to secure a perfect combustion.
